Paint It Black



While painting the piece, I was trying to show how the pool ball was reflected onto the black cup, along with the green and red colors in the background. I used a light source and pointed it at a specific spot in which my camera would capture many different variations of colors. I also inserted a cheese knife to reflect the inside of the cup. The most difficult part to paint were the light reflections across the top of the cup. All in all, I thought everything really worked together, especially the reflection of the pool ball onto the cup.

1.        When examining other people's art, one can pick what to blend in with one's way of art, to modify it into something more desirable for the artist him/herself What did I learn from Kroll's work? Don't focus on the details. Try to work fast so that you won't focus on details and end up repainting--wasting paint and time--and loosing previous flow. Artist Menu Artist Statement

Artist Statement for Artist Menu In the piece above, I painted a part of a picture that I had taken the previous summer in North Carolina of a lighthouse. As I zoomed in the picture, I stopped at a place where Mr. Gaudreau thought best and, as time passed, I was happy he thought so. In the beginning, I was thinking I should use watercolor; try something new. But, that was a mistake. After that, I covered most of the artwork with acrylic paint. And, now that I think about it, I should have painted over the whole piece of paper. If I become famous, and people buy my paintings for centuries, they will diminish before they reach all the buyers they were supposed to. Maybe painting the back with acrylic paint will make it able for me to preserve it. Overall, I think I did a nice job. I am happy with the work I did and think it works best at the window, thing that I also struggled with at the beginning. Three Shiny Objects and Artist's Statement

            In this piece, I tried to paint three objects with only 7 to 10 patches of color alla prima, making it look like one of Peggi Kroll’s work. To make this possible, I separated my colors into shapes and tried not to separate colors into as many shapes as I had done before in previous works such as the one in “Don’t Touch the Edges”. My piece had a nail polish through which the viewer could see the green paper in the background as the light penetrated the glass in it. There is only one shadow on the green paper as I tried to use as few patches of colors as possible. The most challenging part was the nail polish in the center because it was the center of attention and needed more work done onto it than the other two objects—a mechanical blue pencil and a red cup.
